Our custom wholesale UV printed earrings based on your designs are incredibly popular, and we've loved producing your varied, bright, and unique designs! We've loved your support, kind words, and the honour of being able to produce your designs.
We really, really don't want to adjust our pricing and we've been putting it off for some time. But unfortunately, the time has come to adjust the pricing for our earring components to properly cover all of our costs and the variances in material pricing.
We don't generally like tooting our own horns, and we're very humble, but we've become rather good at producing these earrings efficiently and with the highest possible quality. The feedback from our work has been universally positive - even to the point where some of our customers have said that we've made their business possible through our work.
The printer servicing technician even called me a perfectionist during one of the fault finding sessions, as they could only just barely see the fault I was showing to them! We've got a good relationship with them to keep our machines in tip-top shape, and we monitor both of our printers very closely for any imperfections, and get ahead of them.
Unfortunately, it's time to review and adjust our printed earring pricing. These updates are to keep us up to date with price increases that we're seeing across the board, and to ensure that we can keep our quality as high as possible. They reflect the huge variance in price between materials, and also now properly cover off the labour required to achieve perfection and long term durability for your earring components.
We really don't want to have to adjust the pricing - but we need to, to continue to offer the same level of service and quality that you know and expect from us. We have aimed to keep the pricing competitive and sustainable for your business too, especially with the bulk discounts, and we're keen to work with you to achieve your vision and goals.
Here is the new pricing structure for UV printed earrings. We'll be honest - they are a bit of a jump from previous pricing - but this now correctly reflects the variances in material costs, and the labour time associated with making these earring components perfectly for you.
The structure is based on the material that we print on, and the quantity of pairs.
Note: more than 90% of our earrings are made in clear acrylic, so the top row of this table applies to the vast majority of earrings we produce.
Material | 10+ pairs | 15+ pairs | 20+ pairs | 25+ pairs |
---|---|---|---|---|
Clear/White/Black (2mm) | $4.50 per pair | $4.00 per pair | $3.75 per pair | $3.50 per pair |
Solid Colours (3mm) | $5.00 per pair | $4.50 per pair | $4.25 per pair | $4.25 per pair |
Standard Glitter (3mm) | $5.00 per pair | $4.50 per pair | $4.25 per pair | $4.25 per pair |
Wood veneers (4mm) | $5.00 per pair | $4.50 per pair | $4.25 per pair | $4.25 per pair |
All prices in the table include GST.
The one-time setup fee for each design, which is $33 inc GST, remains unchanged, and covers our cost to prepare the artwork for printing, and manufacture the jig for that design.
And now onto a more detailed description of what the pricing changes mean and how we've come to this structure!
These prices will take effect on the 1st of May, 2022.
When we've gone back and re-evaluated our earring pricing, raw materials are a large factor in making earrings! Especially as we often see large orders for earring components, which quickly uses up a lot of materials. There is also a huge price variance between different materials, that fluctuates with market changes - especially with recent world events!
Our basics range - clear, white, and black - are all made from 2mm thick acrylic. This is thinner than the standard 3mm acrylic, which makes your earrings lighter and not quite so chunky looking! Our feedback has been that the thinner acrylic really makes a huge difference to the final earrings. However, pretty much all other acrylic comes in 3mm thicknesses, so we use those where we need to.
Looking back at our records, 90% of our earrings are made from clear 2mm acrylic. So this pricing bracket covers off most of what we produce for customers!
The next bracket is solid colours - many of them come in a matte on one side variety which adds a certain appearance to your prints! These are not commonly used for printed earrings, but can certainly make for a beautiful result.
The next bracket is standard glitter colours. This is quite popular for many designs, as it gives an additional sparkle to many printed designs. It can be used to great effect where we print over most of the glitter except for a few parts - making the designs sparkle in ways they otherwise couldn't! However, the glitter acrylic is more expensive, and the pricing for these reflects that price difference.
The final bracket is our wood veneers. We'll be honest; it's very rarely that we print earring components using the wood veneers, but we include them and can certainly print on them for you! They're finished with a furniture grade semi gloss (30%) lacquer, which gives them a beautiful appearance and feeling. The veneers are slightly thicker at 4mm thick. They also have a black edge due to the laser cutting process used to make them. Wood also prints with a lower resolution than acrylics, due to it being porous, although at this scale it can still capture very fine and delicate details!
Previously, earrings were a flat rate, regardless of how many pairs that you ordered. However, when we evaluated the pricing more closely, there are labour efficiencies in being able to process larger batches of earrings. It takes some time to set up and line up the first run of earrings, quality control them, and then run them. Once configured and quality controlled, we can line them up and run more quite easily, and the bulk pricing reflects this efficiency.
Are you after higher quantities than listed in the table above? Please get in touch with us with your requirements and quantities, as we'll be able to offer an even better price. The pricing breakpoints that we've set out here cover off the vast majority of orders that we see.
We're humble people. We don't like making a fuss about us or our work. But this is one of those rare times that we're going to put that on hold, and tell you why we think you should choose to trust us with your custom wholesale UV printed earrings.
We're pedantic about the quality of our earrings. This starts at the beginning with the artwork that we work with. We check to make sure it's a suitable resolution for printing, and we alter it or go back to the source artwork until we get the best possible artwork to put on the printers. We'll be upfront about the artwork that you supply us and work with you to make it the best that it can be.
The second step is the preparation of the artwork - this is just as crucial as the original artwork. As we often make custom shaped earrings to match the artwork, we need to vector trace and then clean up that outline - remove extra anchor points to get a cleaner cut on the laser; round off any sharp corners to improve the strength of the result and so it's easy to handle without being sharp; and adjust the sizing to meet your exact requirements. Then we prepare the colours and layers; depending on the artwork, we may need to manually generate a white layer to instruct the printer where to print the white ink. The white layer generation isn't as simple as you think - it actually requires quite a bit of work to ensure that we capture the fine details in your artwork, to fit in with the resolution and capabilities of the printers.
Then it's time to run them on the printers. We ensure the printers are clean and well maintained, and keep a close eye on the quality of the prints. You can read up on our blog post about UV printing for the gory details on what it takes to keep one of these machines running and printing perfectly. Each batch is monitored closely to ensure that the print has come out perfectly, with all the layers aligned correctly, and positioned correctly on the piece. And if it's not good enough, we start again until we get it right!
We're pedantic to get the perfect result for you in all stages of the process, and the universally positive feedback we've received confirms this for us.
Without compromising quality, we turn earrings around as fast as we can, to meet your deadlines wherever possible! Our stated lead time is 7 days from when you confirm the artwork. But we're often shipping way ahead of this. We'll be honest, it does depend on how much work we have on - as we have a high demand for UV printing at certain times of the year - but we will communicate with you closely on your order and how it's progressing, and if there are any issues, and when we are likely to get it completed for you, so you can plan appropriately.
But if you need it fast - we can certainly help! As an example, in January 2022 we assisted a customer with an order of 2,500 pairs of earrings; we were able to complete this entire order in 10 days, including weekend breaks, shipping them in batches to allow them to work on final assembly as quickly as possible - without compromising the quality of the result. In another instance, a customer oversold one of their seasonal designs - selling three times as many as intended - and within 48 hours we had the additional earring components made up.
So let us know what you need and when you need it, and we'll work with you to meet those goals!
We're not experts on UV printers, and we don't claim to be! But we have spent over two years producing earrings with our printers, and are acutely in tune with what the printers can and can't do. We've run through the gamut of faults that can occur with the printers and know how to fix or workaround those issues to keep the printers producing at the highest quality.
We'll work with you closely, using our knowledge to come up with the best result for your earrings using the technology on hand. And we're always learning something new, and willing to try something new too - so let us know and we'll work with you to achieve your vision!
We chose to go with Roland branded UV printers. They're considered the top of the line for UV printers. There are a variety of reasons that we chose them and stand by our decision to use Roland printers.
Without delving too deep into the technical side of it, we get the fastest and most efficient results by printing in wide, short strips. We lay out earrings in these wide strips, fitting anywhere from 4 to 20 pairs of earrings in each run, depending on the artwork and sizing. We'll then do enough runs to make up the quantity that you need.
Due to the setup, we don't do half runs - meaning that sometimes, we end up with extra earrings (for example, if you ordered 20 pairs, but the print run fits 7, we do three runs to make 21 pairs). This helps us in case a few earrings don't pass the quality control checks. But as we get better, we're finding that most print runs finish perfectly with no failures.
Rather than put the extras into the bin where they won't be used, we'll send them along with your order for no extra charge. We can't always guarantee there will be extras, but where there are, you'll receive those extra pairs.
